How to organize ChatGPT chats into folders
The problem
After a few months of using ChatGPT, the sidebar turns into a long list of half-remembered titles. The chat with the prompt that finally worked, or the plan you built last week, is in there somewhere. Scrolling and searching titles works until it doesn't. Pasting the good ones into a doc works until the doc is a mess too.
How it works (one moment)
Open a chat you want to keep. In Chrome's side panel, click Save to… and pick a folder, like "Client emails." Next week, open the side panel, click that folder, and the chat is right there. Click it and it opens.
ThreadShelf lives in the side panel next to ChatGPT. It keeps folders, tags, pins and notes that point to your chats. It doesn't move or change the chats.

The free version never blocks you from opening chats you've already saved.
Honest limits: what ThreadShelf is not
- Not affiliated with OpenAI.
- It doesn't change ChatGPT's page. That's a design choice: it can't hide your chats, but it also doesn't add folders inside ChatGPT's own sidebar. You use the side panel instead.
- No sync. No account, and your data stays on your computer. It won't follow you to another computer unless you export and import (Pro).
- It doesn't search the text of your chats. It searches titles and your own notes.
- Install path: the Chrome Web Store listing is pending.
FAQ
Can ThreadShelf delete or hide my ChatGPT chats? No. The Gumroad page says it never touches ChatGPT's page, so it can't hide your chats.
Does it upload my chats? No. There's no account, and your data never leaves your computer.
Is it a subscription? No. Pro is a single $19 payment.
